Minglanilla retains Cluster I crown in GUV Cup tilt

CEBU – Playing at their home turf proved rewarding for the Minglanilla volleybelles as they completed a five-game sweep to retain their Cluster I crown in the 4th Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup For Women yesterday at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.

Minglanilla collected two more wins yesterday to stay as the best in its cluster. Dalaguete came out second four the first time, its best finish in the provincewide tournament organized by the Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA) under the flagship of Glenn Anthony Soco.

Minglanilla dumped San Fernando 25-9, 25-16 and then pummeled Sibonga 25-12, 25-12 for a perfect 5-0 record.

In all its matches, Minglanilla proved too hot to handle for its foes.

Dalaguete, on the other hand, sealed its bid with a 4-1 win-loss record. Its 22-25, 25-19, 15-16 conquest of San Fernando pushed them to second place.

Dalaguete also won over Alcoy, 25-19, 25-15 and against Argao by default. Argao did not finish the competition after absorbing three successive defeats.

San Fernando finished with a 3-2 win-loss record followed by Sibonga (2-3) and Alcoy (1-4). Argao was the only winless squad.

Action resumes next week with the Cluster 2A battle in Samboan. The Cluster 2B action is scheduled on October 11 in Moalboal. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
