UABC Season 2 kicks off tomorrow
CEBU - The Season 2 of the United Architects Basketball Club (UABC) billed as “Davies Cup” comes off the wraps with a surefire explosive triple-header this Sunday at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Gym.
Games tomorrow (USPF Gym)
1 pm Lapu-Lapu vs. Sugbu/Cebu
2:15 pm Rajah Humabon vs. SAC
3:30 pm UABC-A vs. UABC-B
The event was formally launched by the UABC officers led by their president Antonio “Jay-R” Decatoria, Jr. yesterday at the Club Ultima Boardroom situated at the tower’s 19th floor. Also present were Cecille Ouano, Michael Silvero and Richard Lazanas of Davies Paints and UABC founding officer Alan G. Choachuy.
“The primary objective of the UABC is to foster camaraderie among peers in the architecture profession who serve a common passion for basketball. This also serves as an avenue for awareness and interaction in the profession and to develop sportsmanship not only in the field of basketball, but as well in the professional practice of architecture,” said Decatoria.
“In behalf of the UABC, I would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Davies Paints, which is our major sponsor to this activity and to our colleagues who, in one way or another, extended support to the success of Season 2-Davies Cup,” he added.
In the opening day battle, Power Floor (Cebu/Sugbu) will go up against Liquid Tile (Lapu-Lapu) in the first game at 1 pm. Sun & Rain (Rajah Humabon) will then take on the floor against guest team Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC) before Megacryl (UABC-A winds up the day’s action when it squares off against sister-team Bio-Fresh (UABC-B) at 3:30 pm.
UABC vice president Paolo Alberto said the two-month hardcourt war follows a single roud robin format, with the top four teams advancing into the crossover semifinals. The top two seeds will enjoy twice-to-beat advantage over the lower ranked squads. The winner will then slug it out for the championship in a winner-take-all affair.
The tournament takes a break for the All-Star Games on November 30 as the state-of-the-art Benedicto College gymnasium. Exciting sidelights will be featured such as the 2-ball contest, free throw shooting competition, and the customary 3-point shootout. - THE FREEMAN
