CEBU - The MLSDF selection notched its second straight win in as many games at the expense of Philweb, 62-55, in the resumption of the 6th M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Under-21 Developmental Basketball League at the Consolacion Sports Complex.
The MLSDF mainstays waxed hot right after the opening tip-off, scoring the game’s first 10 points en route to a 20-11 lead after the first period.
Philweb, manned by aspiring hoopsters from the University of San Carlos, pulled within three at halftime, 28-31, but the MLSDF stars executed their gameplan with finesse in the third canto to mount a baker’s dozen lead, 50-37, going into the final 10 minutes of the contest.
Again, the hard-fighting Philweb staged a daring rally to knot the count at 55-all in the final two-minute mark but Oteda came to the rescue by drilling in back-to-back field goals to give MLSDF a 56-52 breather. Curiously, those were Oteda’s only points of the game.
The champion in the tournament organized by the M. Lhuillier Sports Development Foundation through the efforts of its dynamic executive director Eddie B. Ybañez will receive P5,000, while the second and third placers will take home P3,000 and P2,000.
Since it is a fund-raising tilt, the prizes will be donated to charitable institutions of the winners’ choice.
