BRAA sports league formally launched

CEBU - The three-month old Banawa Riverside Athletic Association (BRAA) in coooperation with businessman-sportsman Lito Gillamac formally launched the 1st Inter-Sitio, Inter-Barangay and Inter-Clan basketball and volleyball tournaments at the Banawa open court.

A total of 48 teams are taking part in the three-division tilt. The entries are broken down into 18 teams in the Inter-Barangay, 10 in the Inter-Clan,six in the women’s volleyball, eight teams in midget and four in mini basketball.

The BRAA is organized by Boy Allan Lataza, who once played with the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors and the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers during his collegiate days.

The complete list of BRAA officers are Poning Mirarza (president), Medio Rocolas (vice president), Divina Navaja (treasurer), Tata Lauron (sports coordinator), Lito Mabatid (head of peace and order), Robert Dolatre (technical director) and Rey Cabajar (maintenance head). 

The basketball and volleyball events have just ended their elimination round, with four teams staying unbeaten in the Inter-Barangay and Inter-Sitio categories. These are Kelly Perpas, AC Sports Parian, Loyola Guadalupe and MECI Marketring.

In the Inter-Clan, Lauron/Rocolas, Verano/ Navaja and Maloloy-on/Dinampo finished with similar 5-2 win-loss records.

In women’s volleyball, only Marimar is carrying a clean 5-0 slate. Cinderella and Princess are tied with 3-2 win-loss records, while Angels and Dyesebel both career 2-3 marks.

The Dragons and All-Stars, on the other hand, both finished with 2-1 win-loss records in the midget division, while Kung Fu Kids are unscathed in three games, so far, in the mini class.

Lataza said special awards will be handed out to the MVP, Mythical Five, Best Coach, Sportsmanship (team category), Mr. Gentleman, Best Muse, and 3-Point King after the tournament. – GGM (THE FREEMAN)
