Seigfred Ornopia momentarily leads the race for the coveted “Rider of the Year” award in the 2008 MS Motosuit Motocross Series.
After 11 legs, Ornopia has accumulated 306 points, so far, through the executive A division.
Since the start of this year’s MS Motosuit-backed contest, Ornopia is the most consistent among the competing riders by winning one leg after the other.
Also, the departure of the fancied Andot Rubi to the United States made Ornopia’s way up easier.
Breathing down Ornopia’s neck is Jun Enriquez with 275 points.
Boni Bustillo, the front-runner in the local enduro division, runs third in the tightly-knit ROY battle with 256 points. Bustillo is also on top of the heap in the novice enduro class with 233 points.
The youthful John Flores is ranked fourth overall with 229 points. He also sets the paces in the beginner’s open production.
Clark Wagas, the top novice production rider, is at fifth with 206 points, while Pepo Rubi of Castrol-Quickflight Racing is on top of the heap in the experts class but is way behind the overall title with 177 points.
Keith Galaura, another CQR rider, leads in the mini class with 182 points.
Butch Flores, on the other hand, is the man to beat in the executive C with 169 points, in the same way with Gener Sicad in executive B with 204 points and Rex Barbaso in the intermediate class with 163 points.
The champion in each class will get the chance to win a brand new motorcycle during the awards night slated sometime before the year ends, according to businessman-sportsman Lou Ornopia, the man behind the biggest motocross spectacle in Southern Philippines.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
