No, we are not asking you to run till you drop, but to test the limits of your body. After the very successful staging of the first Holiday Gym & Spa 10K Health Run last March, we are raising the level of fitness, a little higher. For the first time in Cebu’s running history, we are organizing a 10 miler (16 kms.) race on October 12. The race is dubbed the 2nd Holiday Gym & Spa “Run to the Max” Health Run that fires off at Banilad. Right after that March race, gym supervisor Annie Neric, operations manager Miss V. Enriquez and yours truly, hatched an idea to hold another run on the gym’s third anniversary. Annie, who is fast becoming one of Cebu’s Top executive runners said, bigger prizes will be at stake. Besides the 16K distance, a 5K run for the not-so-serious runners, will also be held. The race will also have a Holiday Gym category for members. I suggest we will let the much-improved Millette Chiongbian join the open category as she will be impossible to beat in HGS division. Annie said they are increasing prizes with the champions for both male and female in the open division, receiving P7,000.00. The second placers are assured of P4,000.00 while the third placers pocket P2,000.00. Fourth placers will get P1,000.00 while the fifth placers go home richer by P500.00. In the 5K open, the champions (Male and Female) will receive P3,000.00, the second placers P2,000.00 and the third placers P1,000.00. Fourth and fifth placers will receive P500.00 and P200 respectively. Registration will soon start at the PSC Office at the Cebu City Sports Center.
DON SERGIO OSMEÑA SR. 10K RUN
Before we prepare for the Holiday Gym and Spa Run, let’s first join the Don Sergio Osmeña Sr. 10K on September 9. Organized by the Cebu City Sports Commission, the run dangles over P150,000.00 in cash prizes. The champions in the male and female divisions will each receive a whooping P12,000.00, the second placers P10,000.00 and the third placers P8,000.00. Fourth place is good for P5,000.00. The DSOS also features the Master A (40-59 age group) and the Master B (60 above age bracket) with the champions each receiving (P5,000.00). The first 300 runners to register will receive singlets. For further detail please call the Cebu City Sports Commission c/o Raul Manawatao 09194449740.
RESIGN NA KAMO!
When there’s a plane crash caused by a bomb, airport security is tighten. Same goes when a bomb explodes in a mall, an inquiry is the next action. After our debacle in the Beijing Olympics when the Philippines laid a big fat egg, sports critics want a total revamp of the Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission. In fact my classmate Monico Puentebella Chief de Mission said that the blame is on them (sports officials) and not the athletes. On the other hand, PSC Chair Butch Ramirez suggested that all the sports officials resign, Newk said the reason why other SEA countries like Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam won medals, is because of their bigger budget for sports. This year’s RP budget is P250 million compared to the P70 million, the sports agency received for the last 3 years. Indonesia won 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals, Thailand 2 gold, Malaysia, Vietnam and even the favorite whipping boy of the Sea Games Singapore, with one silver medal each. Let’s go back to the drawing board and start training athletes on a long term basis, I think that’s the secret. The keyword “Sustain”. Meanwhile, resign na kamo! Kami bulos.
