Carter, Reli stamp classes

Madelyn Carter was not feeling well a couple of days before the 21-kilometer action, but her spirit remains high that paved the way for her to rule the women’s division of the 32nd National Milo Marathon Cebu leg, even as the comebacking Rogelio Reli claimed his fifth title in the men’s class yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

In her third try, the 28-year-old Carter is bridesmaid no more as she topped the 21K race by edging out foreign runner Katie Fischer of Bigfoot. Carter clocked in one hour, 37 minutes and two seconds, while Fischer came in at 1:41:26.

Emily Chiongbian pulled a major surprise as she defeated several young and seasoned runners to claim the third spot with the time of 1:43:32.

In the men’s side, Reli scored sweet revenge over Eugene Delposo, who denied him of the title during the 2006 edition of the event.

Reli crossed the finished line in 1:20:19 followed by Delposo with a 1:22:12 clocking. Tirso Pamaybay ended third in 1:22:12.

Ian Bernido, on the other hand upset the more favored Carl Jeanette Malazarte for top spot in the boys 5K run with the time of 17 minutes and 36 seconds. He finished just six seconds ahead of Malazarte.

In the girls class, Vlessica Jagna came on top with the time of 20:41 followed by Mary Jane Beboso whoc clocked in 21:13.

In the 3K Fun Run, the 10-12 class was ruled by Charles Dave Beboso (boys) and Crizelda Allanic (girls), while the 6-9 division saw Crizel Diongson and Relmark Dignos clinching the top honors.

The University of Cebu  grabbed part of the limelight after posting  a 1-2 finish in the inter-school team competition through the efforts of its Main and METC campuses, while Southwestern University landed third. UC also got the most number of finishers.
