The premier school-based running event in Cebu, the Cebu Doctors’ University Run, gears up for its third edition on August 17 at the Mandaue reclamation area.
Over 5,000 running enthusiasts, the bulk of which coming from CDU, are set to test their skills and speed on the road.
The participants will tackle a new route that is described by race director Dr. Peter Mancao as a flat and fast course, thus, making it a fair playing field for everyone and even the seasoned ones.
Spearheaded by the Run For Sight Foundation in cooperation with the Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts and Cebu Road Runner’s Club, the event features three race lengths: 10K, 5K, and the 3K Fun Run.
The top three winners in the 10K run will receive cash prizes, while special awards will be handed out to the fastest CDU employee or student in the said category.
Other than the fun and excitement of the race, the organizers led by the father-and-son tandem of doctors Potenciano II and Yong Larrazabal stage this event to keep its students organization active while at the same time raising runds for the less fortunate individuals.
CDU founder Dr. Potenciano Larrazabal II said during the press conference yesterday at the CDU campus in Mandaue that they envision the CDU Run to be an all-student affair in the future.
Right now, over a hundred CDU students volunteered to help in organizing and facilitating the race.
Dr. Yong Larrazabal, on the other hand, disclosed that the income they generated from the first two editions of the annual footrace were utilized in different medical missions as well as in the rehabilitation project during the oil spill in Guimaras Island.
Registration for the 3rd CDU Run is now going on at the CDU campus and at the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-7 office. Interested parties have only until August 15 to enlist.
