Cebu to send three teams to POF regional meet

-

Cebu will be sending three boys football team to the Philippine Olympic Festival-Visayas Qualifying event in Dumaguete City later this month.

The Freeman learned that Cebu would have two squads in the 17-under division and the other for the 14-under division, the division where Cebu won the national title over Iloilo last year.

Don Bosco College again will banner the 14-under squad and get reinforcement from Abellana National School (ANS).

Joselito Bono will coach the 14-under squad this time, as Coach Glenn Ramos (last year’s winning coach) will be handling another team.

Mario Ceniza and Francis Ramirez, on the other hand, will be coaching the two 17-under squads. Palarong Pambansa players from Springdale will likely play for Ceniza and ANS booters will be suit up for Ramirez.

Because the POF represents the LGUs, one of the two boys’17-under squad will represent Cebu City and the other will play for Cebu Province.

As of this writing, all the lineups in the three squads are still not official.

The top two teams in the Visayas qualifying meet will compete in the POF National Finals in Cagayan de Oro in October.

Meanwhile, Coach Glenn Ramos is currently forming a team that will play in the Philippine Football Federation Men’s Open Regional finals, tentatively set from August 8 to 10 here in Cebu.

Cebu, Bacolod and Iloilo teams will vie for a ticket to the national finals in this tournament and will join host Dumaguete City (as representatives of Visayas) in the finale set later this year. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
