Consolacion nips USPF to rule Compostela volleyball tourney

The Consolacion selection trounced the equally-tough University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) belles in a five-set thriller to bag the inaugural crown of the Compostela Mayor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament at the Compostela Sports Complex.

USPF of coach Jordan Paca took the first set 25-19, but the Consolacion bets fought back with aplomb in the second set and after going through some scary moments, they eventually prevailed, 27-25, behind the impressive performances of Jusabelle Brillo, Florian Gutierrez, Janez Armie Ygot, Marites Natad and Arlene Maloloy-on.

The spirited USPF mainstays shot back to life in the third set, 25-21, but the gritty Consolacion side lashed back in the fourth, 25-23, to forge a rubbermatch.

In the decider, Team Consolacion strenghtened its defense and delivered nifty services aces and powerful attacks to overpower the Lady Panthers, 15-12.
