Dancing to glory
After the classic championship battle for the US Open golf title came another titular match that was in epic proportions in the men’s final of the Wimbledon Championships.
Rafael Nadal’s five-set victory over Roger Federer has been hailed by many as one of the greatest championship battles on the grass courts of the All-England Club.
The whole world has already written about what transpired in the game, but what I’ll add is just a note to say that these are just some of the many things that make our lives as sportswriters very worthwhile.
Sports provide us a lot of opportunities to watch action, drama, and real-life suspense thrillers without the bloodshed that comes with war and crime.

I received a text message from Edward Hayco, the other night informing me of the success of Team Cebu City Dancesport in the mid-year ranking competition last Saturday night, which I missed.

Dancesport surely has gone a very long way from what we used to know as ballroom dancing that was usually thought of as more of a leisure activity rather than a sport.
Although when it comes to dancing my talent is zilch, I have seen how this sport has turned from an activity that only the moneyed and their dance instructors were involved into a mass-based event that has reached the farthest mountain barangays of Cebu City and the many towns of the province.
Edward of course is one of the main reasons behind all of this success that makes us very proud to be Cebuanos.
I may never learn how to dance, but dancesport is something that even people with two left feet like me can really appreciate.
More power to Team

I missed last weekend’s Comcentcom Cup shooting competition at the Central; Command Firing Range inside
Although I missed it as an official entry, Karlon Rama, a sports columnist and shooting enthusiast rolled into one, guided me around the courses of fire to at least have a go and see how I would have fared.
It was only after I ran out of ammo in the first stage that I realized that it was a good thing that I was too late to register as an official entry.
I did get to try the other stages and am bent to make sure I come earlier next time. Another important lesson learned.

MILESTONE: Today is a very special day for one of the most influential members of our family, whose guidance helped bring me up to what I am today – my aunt Eva Frasco Quiñones, turns a year older this day.
Auntie Eva as she is called by everyone, yes and that is including our neighbors, had been like a second mother to me guiding me through my tough lessons in mathematics while I was in school to giving me advice about life and helping me financially.
I know you wish you’d have an aunt like her too, but my father’s younger sister, does a lot more than that. When we were kids she used to make donuts for our snacks and would single-handedly repaint our house. I bet you don’t have an aunt who could do the same.
I wish Auntie Eva all the best today and always. Happy birthday!
