Alberto-Razon paces View golfest
The tandem of Rolando Alberto and Hospicio Razon set the early pace in The View Invitational 2008, which teed off yesterday at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, this city.
Alberto fired a net score of 7-under-par 43 strokes in the Modified Stableford Scoring System where players are allowed to use three-fourths of their June 1 handicap.
His partner, Razon, made 38 points for a total of 81 and a one-point lead in this annual member-guest tournament of the club.
Teams play two rounds in this four-day tournament participated by around 200 teams.
With the skies overcast and a downpour affecting play late morning until early afternoon, participants who took off earlier in the day probably had a better chance to score well.
At shortly after noontime yesterday, fog enveloped the course limiting visibility on some holes to about ten meters, but play went on.
At second spot as of presstime yesterday afternoon was the team of Alfredo Tan and his brother-in-law Junnie Cimafranca, who combined for 80 points shooting 39 and 41 respectively.
At stake for a hole-in-one in the tournament are a Kia Picanto from Gateway Motors, a Club Car golf cart, P200,000 cash, a lot from Sta. Lucia Realty, a class A share from Aznar Bros., a trip to
Max Tan of Water Boss said that in case nobody will win the water softener worth P65,000, it will be raffled off during Sunday’s awards ceremony at the AVGCC clubhouse.
A Skygo motorcycle is also up for grabs for an eagle on all par-4 holes. In case more than one player will score an ace or an eagle, the prizes will have to be equally shared.
Jufil Sato and Hubert Calan are on third place with 79 points on rounds of 42 and 37.
Loloy Sabuga and Efren Palugod are three points further back with 76 on rounds of 35 and 41 respectively while the teams of Edwin Espina (37) and Nido Lao (36) and that of Wilky Lim (38) and Angelo Marquez (35) were the last two to break par shooting 73 points apiece.
The participants will be divided into three handicap classes and the top three teams per category will receive trophies and prizes. There will also be prizes for the team with the best net score and the team with the best gross score.
Participants can buy mulligans at P400 for two days before teeing off. The proceeds would be given to the victims of typhoon Frank.
