Bad Boys top rain-marred 2nd Y101 Corporate Cup

- Nimrod NL Quiñones -

Rains dumped by Typhoon Frank forced organizers to cancel the final round of the 2nd Y101 Corporate Cup yesterday at the Cebu Country Club and Team Bad Boys 1 ran away with the title of Division 1 based on the first performance.

The team fired a whopping 117 points in this four-man team event where the three best scores would count for the team total using the Modified Stableford Scoring System.  Antonio Amor led the winning team with 40 points and was backed by Alex Yeo with 39 and Wendell Yap with 38.  The fourth player of the team was Ben Li with 26.

A total of seven flights were able to complete a very wet 18 holes yesterday, but organizers deemed the course conditions to be very difficult late morning forcing them to call off the round.

First runner-up honors for Division 1 went to Gabriel’s Team with 112 points courtesy of Gabriel Yap, Jr. with 39, Jun Tolentino with 37, and Anthony Bejar with 36.  The 27 of Lorenzo Padilla did not count.

Second runner-up was Edcon Glass with 106 points edging Kanyoen in the countback.  Edcon Glass was manned by Johnny Go with 39, Bowen Gothong 34, and Eddie Ong with 33.  The 30 of Antonelo Baldovino did not count.

Division 2

Team Palanca topped the middle third of the field with a total of 101 points.  Those who counted for the team total were Nonoy Tirol 34, David Lu 34, and Danny Deen 33.  The 30 of Douglas LuYm did not count.

First runner-up was J.C. Alloy Mktg. Corp. with 100 points edging Vanex Trading in the countback.

J.C. Alloy was manned by Nilo Seno with 37, Hubert Calan with 36 and Andrew Wu with 27.  The 26 of Nestor Cabrera did not count.

Vanex was led by skipper Ramon Sebastian with 35, while Tony Tankaw added 33 and Junnie Cimafranca made 32.  The 30 of Ang Chiong did not count.

Division 3

After the organizers went over the scores, they found some discrepancies in the classification of teams after the first round.  When adjustments were made based on the rules set for the team classification of the event, Total Men emerged champion of this category.

The tournament guidelines provide that the participating teams will be equally divided into three based on the scores of the teams on the first round.  Meaning, the division 1 will be for the top one-third, division 2 for the middle third, and division 3 for the lowest third.

Total Men with 91 points was inadvertently classified under Division 2, but organizers realized the mistake and immediately corrected the error.  The all-doctor team had Peter Aznar with 31, Albert Solis with 30 and Butch Cabahug with 30 scoring.  The 27 of Jay Tremedal did not count.

First runner-up honors went to Pepsi with 90 points edging Acas Elektrik in the countback.

Pepsi was manned by Kento Nakada with 37, Jack Chiu with 29 and Danny Aguas with 24.  The 18 of Jonathan Andaya did not count.

Acas Elektrik settled for the second runner-up honors behind the 34 of Jerry Tan Uy, 30 of Patrick King, and 26 of Jude Jadraque.  Skipper Rolando Acas scored three points as he is yet to establish his handicap.

Special Awards

Hubert Calan won the trophy for most gross points as he scored 35 points.

The award for highest net points went to Tony Amor with 40.

The longest drive on hole number 8 for the first day was made by Anthony Bejar while Gabriel Yap made the longest drive on the same hole for the second day.
