Almost the best in the West
All my hopes for a miracle from the San Antonio Spurs never materialized and after last season’s champions went down three games to one against the Los Angeles Lakers, I know that there would be many other things I can do instead of watch the game of television and feel bad about it.
My fraternity brother, Raymond ‘Jiggy Jr.’ Cerna has been asking how he could contact me during the games to get the perspective of a fan of the opponent. Jiggy is a huge Lakers fan even if his size doesn’t really show.
I don’t know if it is fortunate or unfortunate that there have been problems with the PLDT Landline Plus prepaid SIM that I got a couple of weeks ago and he could not call me during the games.
Jiggy must think I feel so bad that the Spurs lost. I don’t because I have always approached all these things realistically and this NBA Playoffs, the Lakers have showed that they have what it takes to be the best in the West and the Spurs just almost became such.
But does the team have what it takes to be the best in the NBA? I’m sure you Lakers fan out there think so, but I say I’d rather sit back and enjoy the show.
By the way, now that the Spurs are out, I’d love to see the Celtics win the title this year. Hehehe...

Maybe we both knew the Spurs would lose the series yesterday so my son, Nico and I decided that the best way not to think about the game is to spend the time for watching television at the golf course.
It was actually a refreshing experience to play with children as my nephew Ace Acas and another junior golfer Sir Cross Abarintos also joined our flight.
Golf is indeed a fun sport and the kids showed it as they pranced around the course while trying to concentrate on their strokes.
I do feel like a kid when playing with my Big Brothers, who always have a tip or two to share to improve my game that seems to always go up and down. Yes, up and down — up the slope and down the drain that is.

It is a week away from the 1st Albino D. Gothong Memorial Golf Tournament at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club and yesterday the organizing committee met with some of the major backers of the tournament.
There were representatives from Ideal Builders/Vaz Built-Cebu, Gothong Southern, AD Gothong Manufacturing, Security Bank and our hole-in-one sponsors Hyundai and Kia.
Of course the members of the committee were also on hand to meet with them and show our appreciation for their support.
I’m sure the late Albino ‘Amo’ Gothong is now smiling and he watches us from up there. When Amo was alive, we always knew that there was somebody there to guide us or maybe to make things happen with a phone call.
Next week will be a big test for the committee, but it seems that slowly things have been falling in place as the tournament days are drawing near.
There are still some slots available for those who want to join. Entry fee is only P3,000, which entitles each player to an Adidas bag, a Prada vest, and Ashworth shirt, and a minor raffle prize on top of course of the chance to win hole-in-one prizes and Italian trophies.
