Cars galore for an ace

FULL POINT - Nimrod Quiñones -

Oly Dychangco looked very happy yesterday when he told me that we have two more cars at stake for a hole-in-one in next week’s 1st Albino D. Gothong Memorial Golf Tournament (Amo Cup) at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

He said that he was just on the phone with Pito Alvarez, who committed to put two Kia SUVs on the line for a hole-in-one in the two-day, 18-hole event.

This makes three cars now confirmed as hole-in-one prizes as Hyundai is also putting a Tucson at stake.

Also up for grabs for an ace are a Club Car golf cart and a Yamaha motorcycle from Norkis Trading.

For us, who have a very little chance to win trophies and hole-in-one prizes, there are the raffle items that the organizing committee are now purchasing for this event held in honor of the man, who we all fondly called Amo.

I believe there are still some tournament slots available, but it would be best to contact the registration counter of Alta Vista at 2727977 to make sure that you can still be accommodated.

This is open to both club members and guests.

There is no dearth of golf tournaments in Cebu.  Immediately after the Amo Cup, Club Filipino will be holding its quarterly medal tournament on June 7 and 8 in Danao City.

This is also an 18-hole event with P50,000 as hole-in-one prize.

There will be trophies for the champion and runner of three handicap classes for members and also the guest division.

Evans ‘Give na Tito’ Tumaliwan, who asked me to tell our readers about the event, said that the entry fee is only P500 for members and P800 for guests.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Club Filipino clubhouse located at the 16th floor of the Ayala Life-FGU Building on June 8 at 6:30 p.m.

My judo coach Leonardo ‘Jojo’ Roa, Jr. sent me some material on custom golf clubs a few days ago.

In his note, Jojo told me that James Codde of the Codde Golf Company will be in town next Friday.

I’m sure many of our golfers are very familiar about custom club fitting and how it can help their game.

I’ll know more when I get a chance to talk with the man.

There will be a media launch of Tunob, the University of the Philippines Cebu High School Grand Alumni Reunion 2008 this morning at the campus in Lahug.

It’s just unfortunate that I have to attend two very important meetings this morning, but I do know many fellow media workers from the school, who are very eager to be there.

This is part of the Centennial Celebration of the university.
