Ozamiz netters march into second round of Milo tennis tourney

-

Ozamiz City’s Mark Dominic and Anna Viena Bienes hurdled their first day assignments in the 2008 Milo Age-Group Tennis Championships-Cebu leg yesterday at the Cebu Country Club.

Mark Dominic Bienes defeated Japhet Marquez, 6-2, 6-3, in the boys 14-under division before the rains started to interrupt the action.

In the distaff side, Anna Viena duplicated the feat of her brother with a 6-2, 6-3 thrashing of Clarissa Mae Fuentes.

Aside from the Bieneses, three other players barged into the second round in Mary Claire Lasaga and Kimberly Uytico in the girls division and Ivan Castanillo in the boys bracket.

Castanillo dumped Arfon Lisayas, 6-2, 6-2, while Lasaga blanked Gian Tabanao,6-0,6-0.

Uytico, for her part, needed an extra effort before taking away a precarious 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 victory over Grace Espinosa.

In the girls 18-under class, Hannah Ray Castinillo silenced Rosemarie Shane Sanchez, 6-1, 6-2.

While Sanchez had to sweat it out to advance, five players proceeded to the next round without even holding a racquet as Lovelie Soquino, Cindy Gerapusco, Sallydine Siso, Arlyn Marave and Kristel Mae Buenacosa enjoyed a first round bye.— Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
