Organizers of the 1st Albino D. Gothong Memorial Golf Tournament or the Amo Cup announced the other day that the tournament will be held on June 5 and 6 at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.
The event will be an individual play contest using the Modified Stableford Scoring System for club members while guests will have to play using the System-36 format.
The organizers said that only 200 slots will be open for registration with the entry fee pegged at P3,000.
For the amount that would be paid, participants actually get double than in the cost of the giveaways. The entry fee also covers one mulligan for each nine holes.
Present in Monday afternon’s meeting at Café Georg were overall chairperson Bambi Gothong-Tan, co-chairmen Bob Gothong and Oly Dychangco, and tournament committee members Inting Go, Willy Lim, Tony Tankaw, Ang Chiong, Jonathan Yu, Arturo Go, and Ramon Sebastian.
The committee agreed that the giveaways would be a specially-made bag, a Prada vest and an Ashworth shirt.
A group close to the late Abino Gothong, composed mostly of committee members, also pledged to put P50,000 cash as eagle prize on one par-4 hole on the front nine and another on the back nine.
In case this prize will not be won during the two-day event, the amount will be raffled off during the award rites.
The committee is now busy negotiating with luxury car companies for the hole-in-one prizes.
The tournament is held in honor of Albino, who passed away last year. He is best remembered for the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Golf Tournament series that he organized in the 1990s. He was also instrumental in many major competitions in Cebu during the years before his death.
The philanthropic side of the tournament’s honoree would not also be forgotten as his daughter Bambi said that proceeds of the event will go to the Alpa Foundation Inc., which is supporting several charities and institutions.
The committee will announce the official start of registration soon. Those who will not be included in the first 200 slots will be put on the waitlist.
