Cebu’s Retanal rules Araw ng Panabo Chess Open

Cebuano NM Elwin Retanal kept his winning ways in Davao, this time by topping the Araw ng Panabo Chess Open at the Panabo Chess Club in Davao del Sur.

Retanal posted 4.5 points in the five-round Swiss system competition to capture the title without any complication.

Aside from lifting the championship trophy, Retanal also took home P3,000.

Finishing at joint second to fifth places with 4.0 points apiece were Samuel Yu, Jimmy Dano, Reynaldo Quiñones and Henri Lopez.

Rounding up top 10 finishers were Reynaldo Abba, Mohammad Sacar, Jimmy Hamiron, Gil Rodis, and Gerald Cavan. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
