Welcoat now 6-0 and still counting in CECABA

-

Danel Hayag scored 23 and Christian Espada added 19 points, 11 rebounds and five assists as Welcoat 2004 coasted to its sixth straight victory in as many games with an 81-62 shellacking of First ACY 2006 in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 10th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup on Friday night at the CEC gym.

Kevin Mamac pitched in 11 points and five rebounds, while Emmanuel Chan donated 10 markers for the Paint Masters, who battered Class 2006 quarter after quarter to come up with a 19-point blowout.

Class 2004 was on top by six at halftime, 35-29, then outscored Class 2006 in the third period, 19-13,  before finishing off its hapless foe using a 27-20 blitz in the windup.

Junwynn Dy charted a season-high 31 points on top of four rebounds, two assists and two steals but his singular offensive outburst went to waste as Class 2006 suffered its fifth loss in seven starts.

In the other game, Kwong Bee Sausage 2005 evened its win-loss record to 3-3 after crushing JV Bakeshop ‘99, 75-65.

After an even first-quarter battle, 14-14, Kent Benedict Uy, Philip John Lua, and Kenneth Ang masterminded a blistering 24-15 rally in the second period to push Class 2005 ahead for good at the break, 38-29.

Uy and Lua then connived for 15 points to help Class 2005 neutralize the offense of Class ‘99 in the closing minutes of the contest.

Uy finished with 26 points and four rebounds, while Uy chipped in 25 markers, four steals, three rebounds, and two assists for Class 2005. Ang added 14 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

Troy Symington Tan tossed in 18 points, eight rebounds, and three assists for Class ‘99. Christoper Lim had 12 points and eight rebounds, while Mark Nino See and Sherwin Miranda Sy netted 10 markers apiece as they tailspun to 2-5.—EBV
