Dewfoam ‘88 makes it 5-0 in CECABA

-

Dewfoam ’88 came up with a sizzling offensive show in the first half and  then parried the spirited comeback of Shell ’78/85 at the endgame to eke out a 69-64 win and stay unbeaten in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 10th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup on Thursday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu Gym.

Man mountain Richard Yu topped with 21 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals for Class ’88, which also drew good plays from Robert Lim and Rey Kenneth Ng.

Lim chipped in 15 markers, four rebounds, two assists and two steals followed by Ng with a dozen points on top of six rebounds, two assists and two steals as they stretched their roll to five games in a row.

The Dewfoam-backed squad was in full control of the match after taking a nine-point edge, 31-22, at the intermission.

Top gunner Chester Cokaliong and Edvin Kaw put up a gallant stand in the final two quarters that went highly physical, but their joint efforts couldn’t prevent Class ’78/85 from absorbing its second loss in five games.

With the score stood at 67-64 in favor of Class ’88 with only 11.7 seconds left in the game, Class ’78/85 had a chance to forge an overtime but blew away the opportunity as Cokaliong muffed a potential game-tying 3-point attempt.

Cokaliong finished with 21 points spiked with six triples. Kaw also had 21 points - 15 in the second half - on top of five rebounds. The other double-digit scorer for Class ’78/85 was Wilty Yap with 13 markers on top of season-highs nine rebounds, six assists, and five steals in a losing cause.

In the other game, Rex Millan had a career-high 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Erick Andrew So banged in 22 markers, nine rebounds and eight assists to propel Cokaliong Shipping ’98-A to a n 84-66 stomping of Jepoy Sales 2001.

Paul Timothy So also stole the thunder by recording the season’s first triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.  Manuel Lim donated 11 points and four rebounds as Clas ’98-A improved its win-loss mark to 3-4.

Class ’98-A was up by only four after the third period, 56-52, but detonated a powerful 28-14 bomb in the windup to turn the once close match into a lopsided contest in the end.

Tom had paced Class 2001 with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Primo Reyes contributed 16 markers and 10 caroms followed by Alwyn Ong with 12 points as they further slipped to 2-6. (EBV)
