Shell ‘78/85, Castrol ‘96 go 3-1 in CECABA

-

Pilipinas Shell ‘78/85 once again drew explosive performance from top hitman Chester Cokaliong in its 64-50 thrashing of Security & Systems Monitoring Inc. ‘87 in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 10th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Sunday at City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Cokaliong sank only three triples, but went 5-of-11 from the 2-point field goal and shot 4-of-6 from the foul line to topscore with 25 points. Unpredictable forward Wilson Yu came up with a solid double-double finish of 16 points and a career-high 17 rebounds as Class ‘78/85 bettered its win-loss mark to 3-1.

Top center Edvin Kaw scored only three, but had 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks undescoring his hardcourt versatility. The newest revelation though for Class ‘78/85 was Robert Yu, who pitched in nine points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Cokaliong and Yu combined for 14 points in steering Class ‘78/85 to a 16-13 start. The Shell-backed squad then outscored Class ‘87 in the final half, 40-28, to wrap up the 14-point romp.

George Artus and Henrich Chua connived for 30 points and 11 rebounds, but their efforts were to no avail as Class ‘87 slipped to 1-4.

In the other game, Castrol ‘96 showed great teamwork in mauling Cokaliong Shipping ‘98-A, 77-49, for its third win in four starts.

Five players cashed in twin digits for Class ‘96 led by team director Dreyfuss Ang with 13 points and five rebounds. Bryan Renejane added 12 points, eight caroms and a pair of assists.

Arniel Frank Pelaez also had 12 points, while Shaun Christopher Wang and Rushmarc Lariosa each posted 11 markers for Class ‘96, which mercilessly battered Class ‘98-A in the first two quarters to mount an imposing 39-17 bulge at halftime.

Class ‘96 made another sizzling 23-15 rally in the third to pad its lead to 30 points, 62-32, and send Class ‘98-A staggering until the final buzzer.

Paul Timothy So and Erick Andrew So conspired with 26 points, 18 rebounds, six assists and four steals but couldn’t make an impact as Class ‘98-A fell to 2-4.
