Local fans are in for a treat as the Gin Kings of Coach Joseph Uichico will go all out behind the explosive backcourt rotation of Mark Caguioa, Anthony Helterbrand, Ronald Tubid and Johnny Abarrientos plus the tall frontline of Eric Menk, Rafi Reavis and Billy Mamaril.
Completing the Kings’ roster are shooters Sunday Salvacion and Mark Macapagal, guards Paul Artadi and Macky Escalona, forwards Vic Pablo and JR Aquino and center Gilbert Lao. The team manager is the charismatic Avelino “Samboy” Lim, who once played for the Jewelers during his amateur days.
M. Lhuillier of Coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba and Michel Lhuillier will try their best to even their recent win-loss record against PBA squads at 2-2. Last February 23, M. Lhuillier bowed to the Talk ‘N Text Phone Pals, 97-101, in a tightly-contested match.
Their lone win came against the Santa Lucia Realtors in August of 2006, 82-69. They then lost to the San Miguel Beermen (now Magnolia Beverage Masters) a couple of weeks later, 91-97, in a charity game organized by Cebuano heartthrob Dondon Hontiveros.
The Jewelers will rely heavily on their veteran-laden roster led by Woodrow Enriquez, who torched the Phone Pals with 24 markers. Also seen to play key roles are gunners Stephen Padilla and Bruce Dacia, guard Dale Singson and centers Marlon Basco, Ronald Capati and Leo Bat-og.
Basco and teammate Danny Aying had brief stints with Barangay Ginebra several years ago and are raring to play well against their one-time employer. The rest of the M. Lhuillier roster is composed of Jayford Rodriguez, Enrico Llanto and Jerry Cavan.
Coach Alcoseba has picked up 6-foot-8 American forward Michael Jamar Le Blanc to bolster his side’s chances. The 29-year-old Le Blanc had stints with three teams in the prestigious NCAA Division I of the
