Mandaue cooks up several sports events this summer

-

The city government of Mandaue through Mayor Jonas Cortes has decided to revive the Mandaue City Sports Commission and tasked former Cebu Amateur Athletic Association (CAAA) deputy commissioner Atty. Omar Redula to head such office.

Redula said he has already lined up several activities tentatively on March 15 that will be among the highlights of the Mandaue fiesta celebration on May 8.

The kick-off activity will be a boxing card topbilled by four professional bouts and 14 amateur fights at the Mandaue City Plaza Sqaure.

Redula made the announcement during yesterday’s SCOOP-Cebu forum at the Baseline Restaurant. He was joined by Oscar Quirante, a former ring physican and boxing judge.

Also present were the members of PRISAA-7 taekwondo champion team that include Hazelyn Yusoa, Aprilyn Salo and Karen Fontanilla.

The other guests were taekwondo coaches Edelberto Banzon and George Rodriguez, Junilyn Dublin, Lovely Rose Lim and Gerald Paglinawan, and basketball coaches Camilo Go of USPF and Galimar Largo of USC-North, who talked about their respective stints in the Cherifer Tangkad Sagad 12-Under basketball tournament set tomorrow at the Don Bosco covered courts.
