Class ‘98-B and ’91 stay unbeaten in CECABA

GCM Royalle Merchandise ‘98-B and Young Builders ‘91 bested separate foes to keep their undefeated records intact in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 10th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.

Class ‘98-B beat First ACY 2006, 47-44, for its third straight win in as many starts, while Class ‘91 coasted to its second consecutive victory after taming Security and Systems Monitoring Inc. ‘87, 55-44.

Class ‘98-B was down by a hairline at the end of the first period, 13-14, but fired back in the second canto to wrest the driver’s seat at halftime, 28-26.

Class ‘98-B then held off Class ‘87 to only four points while scoring 11 in the third quarter to change the course of  the match in its favor for good,  39-30.

Elvis Evangelista had 16 points and five rebounds for Class ‘98-B followed by Robinson Yap with 10 points and five rebounds.

Junwynn Dy posted 21 points on top of six steals and two assists, but his solitary effort proved futile as Class 2006 slipped to 1-3.

On the other hand, Juan Borromeo, Jr. netted 25 points, while Emerson Go chipped in 13 markers on top of season-highs 10 assists and nine rebounds for Class ‘91, which trailed by five after the opening session, 16-21.

Borromeo, who shot 12-of-17 from the field, scored 13 in a 21-15 rally in the middle quarters to push Class ’91 ahead by one, 37-36, heading into the final period.

Class ‘91 grew even hotter and formally bombed out Class ‘87 with a blistering 18-8 run in the windup.

Henrich Chua scored a season-high 20 points spiked with four 3-pointers for Class ‘87, which slumped to its third setback in a row.
