Jovie Saulog, the country’s former motocross king, showed he still has something to show off by ruling the second leg of the 2008 MS Motosuit Motocross Series billed as “Mayor German P. Serana-2nd Bayawan Petron Sprint 4T Outdoor Challenge” over the weekend at the Cabcabon Hills in Bayawan City, Oriental Negros.
Saulog conjured all the strength and experience he could muster to tame the rain and mud-harassed racetrack with mastery and prevented Irwin Ramas-Uypitching from making a memorable comeback in the series.
What made Saulog’s way to the top a lot easy was the decision of event organizer Lou Ornopia to cut short the race to only one heat and three laps in the experts division due to unplayable racetrack.
Uypitching, just like last year, finished second followed by Cebuano Pepo Rubi.
Donkey Sanchez and Dexter Bacabac, on the other hand, bagged two titles each.
Sanchez dominated the local enduro over Bonnie Bustillo and Martin Nunez. He also topped the novice enduro, beating Christopher Voss and Bustillo who settled for second and third, respectively.
Bacabac ruled the novice production and executives A. He outsmarted Tadoy Mercado and Rex Barbaso in the novice class and defended his executives A crown by edging out Nonoy Reluya and Jun Enriquez.
In the executives B, Bryan Tuason who won the top spot over Seigfred Ornopia and Jet-Jet Oliveros, while the executives C saw Glenn Concha, Bobby Minorias and Felipe Montejo occupying the top three spots.
Another Bacabac, Jose, pulled off a stunning upset over John Flores to clinch the beginners’ production crown. Christopher Voss placed third.
Kenneth Belleza wasn’t intimidated by Ted Conde in lording it over in the intermediate class, reigning MS Motosuit “Rider of the Year” Juvanni Abellar wound up third.
In the mini class, Kitt Galaura shone the brightest, while Martin Nunez came in second and Bon Sojor third. The All-Bayawan/Executives A was ruled by Dan-Dan Teves Leon, while the executives B was dominated by Accel Teves. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
