Tankers gear up for CVIRAA

-

After helping Cebu  to a third place finish in the Dinagyang Age-Group Swimming competition in Iloilo City last month, four members of  the team are gearing up for the 2008 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) competition later this month in Tagbilaran City.

UC’s Blue Marlin Swim Club members Noel Cañeda and Paula Abigail Vega along with Cebu Eastern Colleges’ Anthony Linn and Lyh Ann Navarro are now deep in their preparation for the regional contest.

The four swimmers, who are under the wings of multi-titled Coach Roland Alvarez, emerged the best in their brackets and won back-to-back best swimmer awards in competitions they entered late last year and early this year.

In the CVIRAA, however, they will be competing in levels, not in age groups. Cañeda and Vega will compete in the secondary level while the Navarro siblings in the elementary level.

Alvarez said he sees no problem in that because he is confident in the training of his wards.

Unknown to many, the four swimmers don’t only excel in swimming but also in their studies. According to Alvarez, the swimmers find time to squeeze in training time despite the hectic demand of their studies. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
