2nd Run For Your Heart: Beboso, Singson stamp classes

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

Lapu-Lapu City’s Mary Jane Beboso finally grabbed the crown she missed last year, while Adonis Singson topped the men’s open division of the 2nd Run For Your Heart that started and ended at the Cebu Doctors’ University gym yesterday.

After learning that defending champion Leizl Lumindas-Getaruelas was  around just for conditioning for the upcoming Hong Kong Marathon, Beboso zoomed ahead of the rest right after the starting gun was fired.

Many-time runner up Madelyn Carter tried to cut Beboso’s lead and  eventually succeeded in wresting the driver’s seat.

Unfortunately, the harder shed tried, Carter suffered some muscle pains that greatly hampered her championship bid.

Not wanting to put her effort into waste, Carter decided to let go of Beboso at the turning point near JY Square.

Beboso never looked back to win the 10-kilometer battle in 42 minutes and 12 seconds.Carter did not regret of not pushing herself too hard as she landed at a decent second place with the time of 44:05, while little-known Kim Tan finished third with a 57:20 clocking.

Singson, on the other hand, took advantage of the absence of top varsity runners to rule the men’s category. He completed the race in 36 minutes and 57 seconds, barely a minute ahead of Xanderlyn Loloy who logged in 37:31. Ronnel Abayo settled for third with 37:58.

In the doctors class, Yong Larrazabal reigned supreme with a 46:27 clocking. Larrazabal was trailed by Glenn Cang with 57:50 and Iranian national Jahani with 59:11.

In the distaff side, Nicole Chua outsmarted Yasmin Jumao-as. Chua clocked in 1:07:58, while Jumao-as had 1:17.

In the executives division, Bigfoot’s Kathy Fischer emerged the fastest with the time of 44:32. Emely Chiongbian placed second with 49:16 followed by PO1 Rosalinda Saturina with 54:50.

The top three in the men’s side were PO1 Raulito Generalao (39:40), Ruth Banzon (40:37) and Mario Ouano (41:37).

Timex’s Heldelito Ngujo won the top post in the 6K event, outsmarting Lorenzo Ricardo and Randy Escarten, while the top three in the women’s bracket were Glady Sumili and Rosanna Sijuga, both of Timex, and Melinda Ponce.

In the 3K class, the first to third placers were Justin Chiongbian (19 minutes), John Lloyd Zaratan (20:21) and Yuan Chiongbian (20:22).
