Henkel ’95 demolishes Class ‘98-A in CECABA
Defending Division 2 champion Henkel Philippines ’95 held off Cokaliong Shipping ’98-A to an all-time low two points in the first quarter and went on to score a 100-51 blowout in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 10th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the City Sports Club-Cebu Gym.
The lopsided outcome was already evident when Class ’95 raced to an explosive 24-2 start. Class ’98-A was unable to come out of that deep hole or even just come close in the remainder of the 40-minute skirmish.
Class ’98-A held a scoring 23-21 edge in the second period, but Class ’95 unleashed its second wave of devastating attack, 29-13, to further tear the game apart with an insurmountable 74-38 lead heading into the final period.
Class formally finished off the hapless Class ’98-A with a 26-13 run in the windup to seal the 49-point romp.
Donald Anthony Ting paced Class ’95 with 17 points, six assists and three rebounds even as three others dished out twin figures.
Archie Gue cashed in 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, while Raymond Gollon contributed 12 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three steals for Class ’95. Romy Chica also had 12 points on top of seven rebounds and four assists.
Erick Andrew So topped Class ’98-A with 18 points followed by Rex Millan with 15. Paul Timothy So had 11 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists in a losing cause.
In the other one-sided match, Christian Espada fired 19 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals as Welcoat Paints 2004 pummeled JV Bakeshop 2002, 65-48.
Espada was heavily backed up by Aljhune Areja and Danel Hayag with 14 markers apiece. Areja also had five steals and issued four assists, while Hayag had four steals, three assists and three rebounds.
After closing the first half with a 29-21 advantage, Class 2004 unloaded a 26-5 bomb to blow the game wide open, 55-26, after the third canto.
David Chan was the lone double-digit scorer for Class 2002 with 15 points on top of nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.
