Post it on the web

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

The Internet has become a very helpful tool for a lot of things.

A few days ago, my physiatrist, Dr. Rhoel Dejaño, told me to check www.youtube.com for core strengthening exercises that would help ease the pain on my back brought about by a herniated disc.

I once considered the site just a source for entertainment, but when I started to do searches for clips of soccer and judo and saw some instructional videos and great goals, it become more than a source of fun.

We don’t get enough football on Philippine television and we get almost zero coverage of judo events unless of course you have cable and you can chance upon such in the foreign channels.

The Internet surely has given many people not only the chance to watch, but also to post their own videos hoping to draw attention to what they are doing.

I know for a fact that one sporting organization in Cebu is now working to post some instructional video on YouTube while many sports fans like me fill our need for sports by logging in.

Since we are in the subject matter of posting videos on the Internet, let me tell you about something an old friend of mine is up to these days.

In my one school year stay at the University of San Jose-Recoletos over a score ago, I met in many of my classes John Eric Taburada.

Since I left the school, I bumped into him very rarely and just last week, I received email from him and he told me he is now in Canada.

To while the time away, John Eric told me that he is using his talent in cooking to post videos on YouTube about how to prepare Filipino dishes.

Here is what he sent me:

I am a Cebuano who wants to inspire the world of being a Filipino. I am making a video about how to cook our native dishes and show it to the whole world via YouTube.

To those who want to see me cook... click the link at YouTube!

Those who want to contribute and share their special recipes (Filipino dishes only), kindly send them to me for evaluation. Selected recipes will be given a schedule for cooking and photography; and will be featured on YouTube with your name as the contributor.

Cooking is not exactly sports, but athletes do love to eat good food before or after playing.

Maybe you can also send email to my buddy at [email protected] so you can share that passion for cooking.

Good luck John and when you get to visit Cebu one of these days, I look forward to tasting the food that you will cook.

Milestone: Congratulations to Kristian Gollon, son of my golfing partner Gerry, who is tying the knot this afternoon with The FREEMAN Campus and Kid Stuff editor Ardelle Merton.

I’m wishing you all the best!
