CCC hoopsters Batch 1987 reunion on Jan. 16

-

The CCC (now UC) Junior Executives batch of 1987 will hold their reunion January 16 (Wednesday) at 5 pm at the Baseline Restaurant.

This 1987 junior team is perhaps the most successful team in the history of the University of Cebu.

The team won the 1987 junior crown after beating the then Benjie Paras led San Beda Red Lions in the final in Baguio City. They repeated as champion, the next year, by beating FEU Baby Tamaraws in Manila.

The team then had Ritchie Bacalso, Kenneth Aliño, Arnulfo Santos (deceased), Bert Flores (now FEU coach), Reggie Licanda (current coach of UC Junior Webmasters), Michael ”Billy Ray Bates” Dumdum, Jessie Bardaje, Jeffrey Gabuya, Choy Aranio and Aldrin Barola. Mariano Agas, Sr., coached the team in both title campaigns.

Bacalso, the organizer of the event, told The FREEMAN that the main reason they are holding the reunion is to honor one of their teammates, Arnulfo Santos, who succumbed to cancer.

He added that UC president Atty. Augusto W. Go, team manager Atty. Baldomero C. Estenzo, coaches Joaquin Roja and Mariano “Dodong’ Agas, Jr., and trainer/statistician Eddie Montalban are expected to attend the affair.

Naga (Cebu) City Mayor Val Choing, a former UC player, is also expected to attend together with some other UC players including Harley Son (now based in Australia), Erwin Francisco, Ope Abellana, Julius Gastador, Alex Armenion, Rocky and Baban Bacalso, Alfredo Leyson, Ralph Ybañez, and a lot more who are available.

Those interested to join the reunion may contact Bacalso at his mobile phone, 0926-248-1391. (GGM)
