Delposo, Getaruelas win ‘Mano Amon’ Run

Eugene Delposo finally broke the spell even as Leizl Lumindas-Getaruelas repeated as champion in the 27th Halad Kang Mano Amon Run on Christmas Eve in Danao City.

Delposo, who, in the past races could never land in the top three, finally won the men’s open division title of the 10K run, of the country’s second longest running tournament in the country.

The absence of defending champion Mendel Lopez, who was reportedly sick and decided to take a needed break, made the win a little easier for Delposo.

Delposo darted off from the finish line, established his lead early, and never looked back until he crossed the finish line. He had his day when his brother Joel came in second to make it a 1-2 finish for the siblings. Little known Revodem Aranas was third.

Leizl Lumindas-Getaruelas, who earlier had won the MOVE 5K and SWU Run, won the women’s division for the second time. Mary Jane Beboso came in second while Madelyn Carter finished third, just like last year.

In the All-Danao race, John Philip Duenas crossed the finish line ahead of Ramil Lumindas and Jude Rivera.

Duenas’ coach, Mendrica Villarubia, missed a back-to-back victory after Virgie Rodriguez outpaced her at the finish line of the women’s division.

Jay Hermosilla and Consisa Roble rule the boys and girls divisions of the High School 5K run, respectively, while Jeffer Capin and Judy Hilario were the top runners in the elementary division.

Hermosilla beat Julieto Bayo and Rodulfo Cabahar, who finished second and third, respectively.

In the girls’ category, Roble finished ahead of Menchia Avila and Marjorie Rodemio.

In the elementary division, Capin had Jay Hermoso and Emir Kapol eat his dust while Hilario outpaced Jessa Marie Laurente and Alma Abad.

The Danao City Sports Commission led by Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez, Jr., organized the event as one of the activities to commemorate the 102nd birthday of the late Ramon Durano, Sr., the grand old man of Danao.
