The 2007 Cebu Provincial Meet formally unfolds today at the Mayor Exasperanza S. Binghay Sports Oval in Balamban with thousands of athletes, coaches and officials from the different congressional districts in the province expected to attend the grand opening.
This year’s battle, which carries the theme “Onward Cebu for Quality Basic Education through Sports, Culture and the Academics”, will have no less than Cebu Governor Gwen F. Garcia and 3rd District Rep. Pablo John Garcia as the guests of honor.
They will be joined by DepEd-7 director Carolino B. Mordeno, Cebu Schools Division Superintendent Recaredo G. Borgonia, Balamban Mayor Alex Binghay and Asturias Mayor Allan Adlawan.
The week-long competition will be co-hosted by the LGUs of the municipalities of Balamban and Asturias in cooperation with DepEd-Cebu Province and the 47 municipal mayors of Cebu.
A total of 15 sporting events will be featured in the elementary level and 18 in the secondary level.
These are archery, arnis, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing chess, football, gymnastics, sepak takraw, sipa, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, lawn tennis and volleyball.
To spice up the multi-sport event, a search for the Festival Queen 2007 will be staged on the 29th at the Balamban Municipal Park and Playground. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
