Fernandez wins gold in judo youth c’ships

Joaquin Nicolo Fernandez may have missed a medal in the Philippine Olympic Festival but quickly made amends by winning the lone gold for Team Cebu City in the Philippine Youth Judo Championships at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex’s badminton hall yesterday.

Fernandez grabbed the gold in the 13 to 15 year-old class after beating a judoka from the International School in Manila in the final.

The 14-year-old youngster from St. Francis de Assisi School in Lahug beat three other bets on his way to the gold medal.  – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
