Cebu XI makes it 4-0 in POF finals

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

Team Cebu City-Football topped bracket B in the 15-under division of the 2nd Philippine Olympic Festival National Finals with a masterful 10-0 drubbing of Quezon City yesterday.

The young Cebuano booters, now toting a clean 4-0 record, move to the next round after their resounding victory at Philsports Complex in Pasig City.

Team Cebu awaits the winner of the game between Bracket A contenders Davao and Muntinlupa for its crossover semifinals opponent.

So overpowering was Team Cebu that before the first half ended, they were already leading 4-0.

Prince Anthony of Abellana National School led Cebu’s relentless attack with four goals.

Ropert Gealon, James Nacorda and Peter Ricamora from Don Bosco College finally shined for Cebu by scoring a goal each.

Team Cebu scored three more goals over the hapless Quezon City booters for its most lopsided victory in the tournament, so far.

Meanwhile, Team Cebu City-Judo finished with a silver and bronze medal.

Vicente Fernandez III, perhaps missing his father-coach Atty. Vicente Fernandez, bowed to Bunsoy Lucero in the championship round to settle for silver. Despite his silver medal finish, Fernandez fought a good fight and nearly broke the neck of Bunsoy during their match. Bunsoy had his badly swollen neck wrapped with a cold pack after the contest.

Allan Antigua, a judoka from the University of Cebu, won the team’s bronze medal.

The Visayan Electric Corporation (VECO) along with Cebu Amateur Football Club led by Ricky Dakay and the Cebu City Sports Commission-sponsored TCC’s trip to Manila.
