USC dominates Montesorri swimming

The University of San Carlos Swim Team harvested 22 gold, 11 silver and 6 bronze medals that were good for 352 points to win the overall championship of the Maria Montessori Children’s House Inter-School Friendship Swim Meet 2007 at MMCH’s pool in Talamban, this city yesterday.

Four USC swimmers collected three gold medals apiece to anchor the team’s victory.

Edgar Allan Jarina had a golden performance in the boys’11-12 under 100-yard individual medley, 50-yard backstroke and butterfly.

Jebb Cane won the boys’14-under 50 and 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.

Siblings Ara Denise and Loren Dale Echavez had another golden performance. Ara Denise dominated the girls’12-under 50-yard breaststroke and freestyle events while Loren Dale topped the 50 and 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly races.

Another sibling, John and Patricia Solon won two gold medals each. John topped the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle in boys 15-under category while Patricia took the gold in 100-yard IM and breaststroke events of the girl’s 13-14 category.

Two other USC swimmers contributed to the championship by winning two gold medals in their events.

Jess Ariola won the boys’15-under 100-yard IM and butterfly while Jeremy Ballesteros grabbed the boys’13-under 100-yard breaststroke gold.

USC also dominated the relays, winning the boys’ 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley.

Host Maria Montessori Children’s House was second overall with 261 points while the Cebu International School ending third with 221 points. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
