Cebu’s Encorporado wrests singles crown in 1st Queen City darts

-

Cebu’s William Encorporado made sure he won’t be overshadowed by a visiting darter by ruling the premiere singles event of  the 1st Queen City Of the South Open Darts Tournament recently at the Baseline Sports and Recreation Center.

Encorporado’s courage and determination were well applauded by both fellow Cebuanos and visiting darters from Visayas and Mindanao as he dumped the no.1 contender Rommel Bagotayao of ACA Bacolod to clinch the title.

More to it, Encorporado of the City Hall Employees Darts Association (CHEDA) prevented Bagotayao from sweeping all three events featured in Baseline’s 34th anniversary tournament.

Bagotayao was enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage, but the lion-hearted Encorporado turned the tables on him with finesse, sweeping the two final matches at 2-0 count.

Cagayan de Oro’s Rolly Majorenos grabbed the third place honors followed by Tagum’s Yoko Quillope.  The fifth to eighth places went to Cebu’s Steve Montenegro, Alvin Villa, Junex Perez and Dodong Alarce of San Carlos City.

Earlier, Bagotayao and Odong Pamatian pulled a 2-1 victory over Cebu’s Ismael Lumantao and Jomar Amerol to reign supreme in the doubles event, while Roy Laude and Marlito Patunog landed third.

In the 3-man team competition, the combined forces of Bagotayao, Tagum’s Elmer Briones and Cebu’s Dodong Cañete lorded it over with a 2-0 whitewash of Cebu’s Ramirez, Tanjay’s Dorie Fernandez and Butuan’s Bernand Cornelio.

Joseph Baldonado, Arnel Gudinez and Eugene Managuit, who are all from Cabreros, wound up third in the event presented by Baseline in partnership with SkyMart, Harvest, Engrs. Edwin Tarillo and Joel Odi, Bacalso Construction, Marichu Balderama, ManuLife Insurance, Edar Emmanuel, Dhodz Concon, Renante Santerez, Bank of East Asia, Adonis Montero, Raul Austria and friends of the Cebu Darts Association.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
