GTX wins championship in Castrol X-Factor League caging

-

Team GTX bounced back from two consecutive defeats in style, hacking out a 74-63 win over 4T to clinch the championship of the 2007 Castrol X-Factor League basketball tournamet at the New Sacred Heart Sports Center Gym.

GTX went off to an awe-inspiring start, taking an early 21-6 lead en route to closing first half with a 17-point advantage, 38-21.

4T rallied back in the third period, 31-12, to wrest the driver’s seat, 52-50, heading into the final period.

However, that was the best 4T could muster as Hendrell Saliz, Galvin Lim and Philip Khan Lim, and Giovannie Young presided over a searing 28-15 run in the windup to vault GTX to victory.

Young spearheaded GTX’s offensive assault with 23 points followed by Galvin Lim with 16 points. Hendrell Saliz and Philip Khan Lim chipped in 26 markers combined.

4T, on the other hand, only had two players cashing in double digits. Frederick Chua had 15 points followed by Chris Ortiz with 11.

In the other game, Lyndon Acusar fired 25 points, Mark See had 18 and  James Go banged in16 markers as CRB outlasted Edge, 92-85, in overtime to lift the third place trophy.

Castrol Vis-Min Area Manager Jun Estrada was on hand to award the trophies to the top performing teams.

“The league would like to thank Castrol for its all-out support to the tournament. There will be more teams next year, which will definitely add fun and camaraderie among the players,” said Kerwin Tan-Siao, one of the league organizers.  — EBV
