ASEAN engineers to begin Cebu activities with golf tourney

Engineers from various ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries will begin its silver anniversary celebration in Cebu City next month by swinging their golf clubs and cap it with its annual conference on energy and the environment.

"Nearly a thousand engineers will converge in Cebu and enjoy its world-class amenities and the well-known Filipino hospitality," said organizers of the 25th Conference of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Federation of Engineering Organizations (CAFEO 25).

Engr. Bill Peralta, Visayas chapter president of the Institute of Electronic and Communications Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) and CAFEO 25 golf tournament chairman, expects over a hundred to join the tournament.

"We invite all CAFEO 25 delegates to show off their swings and check out the holes at the challenging greens of the Cebu Country Club in Banilad," said Engr. Willy Go, the national vice president of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers and co-chairman of golf tournament.

He added that the system 36 game set up would kick off on the 25th anniversary activities capped by the serious weeklong conference on engineering solutions to energy and environment problems.

"The players will be divided into three categories including the beginners, intermediate and expert divisions, respectively," said Peralta.

Engr. Enrico Nera, president of the Philippine Technological Council that is hosting CAFEO 25, said the CAFEO 25 theme "Engineering, Energy and the Environment: Ensuring Survival for the Future Generations" shows the unity of engineers from the different ASEAN-member countries in addressing energy and environmental issues.

"This satisfies man's thirst for technological advances to bring about wealth and comforts of life without destroying the earth's natural resources," Nera opted.

He explained that CAFEO 25 aims to instill a multi-professional approach to the economic, social and techno-scientific problems and convince engineers to help control of not stop technologies and practices that abuse the environment. — Marigold P. Lebumfacil, Correspondent
