The UV Baby Lancers moved within a win of advancing to the finals of the 7th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament after trouncing top qualifier University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors, 83-64, in their semifinals game last night at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Baby Lancers struggled in the early stages of the game before forging a 32-all deadlock at halftime. The UV juniors wiggled out of the jam with Aldwin Felisario on the firing end to build a 53-46 third quarter advantage.
John Michael Abad, the All Star Juniors MVP, then took over in the last quarter and conspired with Felisario, Junard Premacio and Eugene Viagedor to bag the victory. Abad topscored for UV with 22 points, with Felisario Premacio and Viagedor scoring 15, 12, and 11 points respectively.
The Baby Warriors will try to force a winner-take-all game when they collide with their tormentors in the second game tomorrow.
As of press time, topseed University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers were still playing fourth-ranked University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the collegiate semifinals encounter.
