UV juniors turn back USPF for first victory
The University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers finally barged into the win column after beating the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers, 84-78 in come-from-behind fashion last night in the secondary match of the 7th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball season at the Cebu Coliseum.

It was actually a bumpy ride for the Baby
Lancers in their quest for their first win in three games, but because of their solid defense in the
fourth period that prompted the Baby Panthers to commit blunders, they were able to protect a very precarious lead.
Soon as John Michael Abad, a pint-sized point guard, put the Baby Lancers back in front by converting two charities, 71-70, with still 3:54 left in the game, they never wilted despite maintaining only at least a three-point edge the rest of the way.
A basket by Aldwin Felisario put the Lancers ahead by four, 75-71. The Baby Panthers refused to wither not until a basket by Junard Premacio and a dagger shot by Eugen Erick Viagedor gave the Lancers an 82-75 breather with just 40 seconds left to play.
A very uspet Baby Panthers coach Camilo Go attributed their loss to their lack of defensive
hustle because it was when they pressed that the Baby Lancers committed flaws and went on to an erratic ballgame only to regain composure down the stretch.
Viagedor topscored for the Baby Lancers with 19 points followed by Felisario, Abad cashed in 16 points, while Junard Premacio, the only mainstay from UV’s roster last year, chipped in 10 markers.
The Baby Panthers, who fell to 1-1, were led by Ephraim Elorde with 15 points, while
Bordalba and Jaime Henri Babiera had 14 and 13 points, respectively.
As of this writing last night, the USC Baby Warriors are shooting for their third straight win in as many games against the 1-1 UC Junior
Webmasters.
