4 teams confirm entry to Bogo City cagefest
Four heavyweight teams will clash for the rich paycheck and elegant championship trophy in the 1st Bogo City Mayor’s Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament set from August 30 to September 2 at the Don Celestino Martinez, Sr. Memorial Coliseum in
BAP-SBP Cebu Province director Lorenzo “Chao” Sy, who is organizing the four-day cagefest in partnership with the city government of Bogo under the leadership of Mayor Celestino “Junnie” E. Martinez, Jr., said leading the cast of strong title contenders is the multi-titled M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Jewelers of Michel J. Lhuillier and coach Raul “Yayoy” D. Alcoseba.
The rest of the entries are the rampaging Arthro Kontra Arthritis of Jonathan “Atan” L. Guardo and coach Bong Abad, reigning 2007 Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) First Conference champion Holcim Pryce Pharma MisOr of Gov. Oscar Moreno and coach Bong Abad, and the comebacking Mandaue-Cebu Landmaster of Mayor Jonas Cortes and coach Jun Tan.
In a press conference yesterday at Hotel Fortuna, Chao Sy announced that the champion in what is by far the richest basketball tournament in Cebu in recent years will take home P75,000. The second placer will get P50,000, while the third and fourth will get P30,000 and P20,000.
The competition follows a single round robin format with the top two teams slugging it out for the championship. — EBV
