Football tournaments
It’s always good to be in the hotbed of Cebu football and see friends, who you used to play with or watch play, now helping develop the younger generation.
The guys still play when they can and often we also get to met up with them as opponents inside the field for the 36 years old and above category.
This month, I can truly say that I love weekends with all the sporting events happening.
Oh by the way, if you want to witness inter-school basketball action, there is the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. tournament that is also ongoing.
I had a phone conversation with Commissioner Felix ‘Boy’ Tiukinhoy, Jr. a couple of weeks ago and he sounded very excited about this season.
I’m sure it is with a towering 6-11 player from UV, Gregory Fuentes Slaughter, as a main attraction.
He’s still a bit raw according to my sources, but if this young man will be given a few more months and ample playing time, I’m sure he’ll dazzle us all.
I still have to find time to watch the Cesafi games. Maybe my buddy and fellow sports columnist and TV commentator Rico Navarro, who is the assistant commissioner of Boy, would ring me one of these days to watch the games with him.
I’m also looking forward to the volleyball and football events of the Cesafi. I have a special interest in these two events since I played in both during the days of the Cebu Amateur Athletic Association (CAAA), the predecessor of the Cesafi.
