USC Power Run today

-

The University of San Carlos Power Run unfolds early today at the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds with over a thousand competitive and fun runners set to join the action.

USC president Rev. Fr. Roderick F. Salazar, SVD and the school’s vice president for finance and athletic director Rev. Fr. Vicente “Vic” L. Uy, SVD are expected to fire the starting gun.

The race is divided into several classifications and race lengths.

There will be a 10K and 5K run for the men and women’s open and the all-USC class, while the 3K is open only for USC elementary students.

Elementary runners studying at USC who want to compete in either the 10K or 5K run will be accepted provided that they will secure a certification from their respective coaches regarding their level of competitiveness.

The event is compulsory to those who have Physical Education subjects and all varsity players of USC.

Mendel Lopez is the top favorite in the men’s open and Leizl Lumindas-Getaruelas in the distaff side.

Although competitive in nature, the USC-organized tilt is a run-for-a-cause.

Among the beneficiaries of the footrace are the street children taken cared of by the SVP JPIC-IDC program and the drug dependents or victims who are now with the Recovery House, an innovative addiction specialist in Cebu.

The top finishers will receive cash prizes, plaques and medals in the event sponsored by IPI, Pepsi, Nature’s Spring, Fitness First, Junrex, M.Lhuillier, Philippine Paper Craft, Inc., Rogemson’s Company, Julie’s Bakeshop, Avia, Monde Nissin, Converse, Seiko and TXT 2 Protect prepaid cards. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
