Cebuano Jomar Roland Jumapao came up with one of the most remarkable performances among the country’s bets in the 10th Asian Schools Championships after contributing two silvers in the week-long event in Hong Kong.
Jumapao got the silvers through the boys all-event and the team competition.
Jumapao got the silver in the boys all-event after posting a total of 3,836 pinfalls broken down to 1,284 pins in the singles, 1,256 in the doubles and 1,296 in the team event.
The gold went to Korea’s Seung Hyeon Shin with 3,881 pinfalls, while her teammate Korean Tae-Seung Choi took away the bronze with 3,832 pins.
Jumapao, who joined forces with three Manila-based players Kenneth Chua, Mar Vincent Reyes and Jose Collins, also wound up with a silver in the team competition still behind Korea.
The RP boys squad produced 5,004 pinfalls, 159 behind Korea with 5,163 pins for the gold. Malaysia-2 got the bronze with 4,795.
In the distaff side, Manila’s Marjorie Anne Reyes produced RP’s lone gold in the singles event with 1, 291 pinfalls. She landed fifth overall in the girls all-event.
Three other Cebuano bowlers took part in Alexis Sy, Germaine Uang and Misha Rianne, but they couldn’t make an impact. Sy landed 25th in the all-event with 3,305 pins, Co at 32nd with 3,214 pins and Huang at 45th with 2,989. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
