Heart Vit captures 30-A title in PPSA cagefest

Heart Vit-Red overpowered Lactea Energy Drink of lawyer Raul Padilla, 83-76, to win the championship in the 30-above division of the Punta Princesa Sports Association (PPSA) 2007 Summer Basketball Tournament at the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Gym in Brgy. Punta Princesa, this city.

Right from the start, Heart Vit-Red dictated the tempo of the match behind the hot hands of Rene Toring, Julius Gastador and former commercial standout Jerry Jaca.

Lactea tried to grab the lead with Calvin Tuadles and Joshua Alguno at the forefront, but could only cut Heart Vit’s lead to seven points.

Toring banged in 20 points followed by Gastador and Jaca with 16 points for Heart Vit-Red, which took home the P5,000 champion’s purse. Lactea pocketed P3,000 for its first runner-up finish.

Benjie Tomaquin posted only 13 points for Heart Vit-Red but walked out of the hardcourt with the biggest smile as he copped the coveted MVP award due to his excellent quarterbacking skills.

Tomaquin automatically made it to the Mythical Five together with Rocky Bacalso, Calvin Tuadles, Joshua Alguno and Julius Gastador. Tuadles paced Lactea with 21 points followed by Alguno with 19 markers.

Earlier, Romeo Faunillan’s RCAF bagged the third place honors after outsmarting Samsung TV Makers,107-98.

Rocky Bacalso and Alfie Lansang led RCAF with 34 points combined.

Punta Princesa Brgy. Capt. Joe Navarro and  PPSA president Harry Lim were on hand to award the cash prizes, trophies and medals to the top performing teams and individuals
