The MLSDF All-Stars and Dewfoam-University of San Carlos (USC) shoot for bracket top spots in their respective divisions today in the resumption of the 1st M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Open Indoor Volleyball Tournament at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) gymnasium.

In the opening skirmish at 8 am, the MLSDF All-Stars of coach Raffy Briones eye for a 3-0 sweep in women’s bracket B when they take on the listless Rich Media-USC.

MLSDF, powered by former and present crop of collegiate stars that include Mechelle Matuguina, Janeth Ponte, Marissa Lagancia, Jusabelle Brillo, Kimberly Gendrauli and Janiz Armie Igot, currently enjoys a clean 2-0 slate.

While their female counterparts are languishing at the cellar without a win in two starts, the Dewfoam-USC spikers gun for the solo leadership in men’s Bracket A when they duke it out with Carcar selection in the final match of the day.

Dewfoam-USC sports an immaculate 2-0 win-loss record. In sharp contrast, Carcar selection is mired down the rear with a woeful 0-2 mark in the tournament organized by M. Lhuillier Sports Development Foundation (MLSDF) executive director Eddie B. Ybañez.

In the second game, the RTM belles of Fr. Rolando Manayon tangles with the Arthro Kontra Arthritis-backed USPF in a crucial duel for the No.2 slot in women’s Bracket B. Both are carrying 1-1 win-loss cards.

The RTM-USPF encounter will be followed by the battle of winless teams pitting GDS Security Agency-Southwestern University (SWU) against Kima Glass in women’s Bracket A.

In the first game of the afternoon session set at 1 pm, the Crunchicken-USPF spikers and Tinong’s Bakery-Mandaue selection will slug it out for the second spot in men’s Bracket A going into the crossover semifinals.

Right after their encounter, The Classical Touch and the ML Pamilya Insurance Plans-backed University of the Visayas (UV), both winless squads in men’s Bracket B, hope to break into the win column but one of them will surely proceed to the exit. — EBV
