CCC club championships start

Three-time champion Eric Deen gets a chance to once again go for the club title as the matchplay rounds of the Cebu Country Club 2006 Championships tee off today.

It is a club tradition that the club championship of the previous year would be played at this time of the year.

Deen topped the qualifying round with an even-par 144 strokes on rounds of 69 and 75. He topped the event after edging Mark Dy for the lowest gross honors.

Lowest net for the qualifying event went to David Lu, who scored 128 strokes.

The best net winner for class A was Jovi Neri with 138 after he edged Dominic Hing for the title.

Charles Daniel Uy led a 1-2 finish by junior golfers in class B with his net 131 while Dy had 137.

In class C, Titing Gamallo had the lowest net with 136 after pulling past Francis Dy, father of Franz Ian, in the countback.

The class D plum went to Hideki Anai with 134 strokes while Gerry Gollon finished as runner-up with 139.

In the seniors'' class, Masaya ''Happy'' Hishida scored a net 134 and edged Maning Granada in the countback to win.

Miguel Mancao topped the superseniors'' class with his net 139 followed by Tony Jackson with net 140 as runner-up.

In the April Monthly Medal, Mark Dy scored 68 strokes to win the lowest gross honors.

Macky Michael topped class A with a net score of 65 edging Charles Daniel Uy in the countback.

The class B plum went to Alex Garcia with a net score of 64 winning it via countback over Francis Dy.

John Schmidt ruled class C with a net score of 69 pulling past Masanao Kobayashi in the countback.

Rhoudie Tiu won the class D title with a net score of 65 while Ben Gonzalez finished as runner-up with a net score of 67.

Tony Jackson topped the seniors'' class with a net score of 67 edging runner-up Florentino Palacio in the countback.

The guest division title went to Dino Yap with a net score of 74 while Joy Siguan was runner-up with a net score of 75.

In today''s matchplay rounds, Deen goes up against 16th-ranked William Hong while Dy faces number 15 Marc Gonzalez.

Bayani Garcia (3) will match up against Macky Michael (14), six-time champion Montito Garcia (4) faces Jojo Tiongko (13), and former champ Jovi Neri (5) meets Nonoy Tirol (12).

Multi-winner Carl Almario (6) will face off with JJ Alvarez (11), defending champion Charles Hong (7) meets Franz Ian Dy (10), and Charles Daniel Uy (8) goes up against Dominic Hing (9).

In the seniors'' division, Hishida (1) faces Bugs Unchuan (8), Bobit Avila (2) meets Julius Neri (7), Efren Sarmiento (3) battles Hisato Isobe (6), and Joseph Yukayguan (4) trades swings with Maning Granada (5).

Class B matches will have David Lu (1) vs. Martin Montenegro (8), Victor Yuvallos (2) vs. Michael Go (7), Alex Garcia (3) vs. Francis Jereza (6), and Iker Aboitiz (4) vs. Blake Go (5).

For class C, Francis Dy (1) vs. Alvin Lim (8), Eric Borja (2) vs. Gilfer Alvarez (7), Titing Gamallo (3) vs. Intoy Palacio (6), and Tony Pineda (4) vs. Henry Dy (5).

In class D, Gerry Gollon (1) vs. Fruto Teodorico (8), Hideki Anai (2) vs. Bombi Aznar (7), Kenichi Kawamura (3) vs. Jun Manglapus (6), and Rhoudie Tiu (4) vs. Pio Go (5).

The matches would start at 9 a.m. (NLQ)
