Petrogas '92 scorches '89 in CECABA

Petrogas '92 rode on an explosive second-half show to scorch Worldwide Travel and Tours '89, 74-59, in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 9th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC gym.

Class '89 was only in the game after the first half where it managed to forge a 32-all deadlock as Class '92 opened fire in the third period, 22-11, before closing the game with a 20-13 run to seal the 17-point romp.

Richard Lanutan had 27 points, nine assists and eight rebounds for Class '92 followed by Warren William Yu with season-highs 17 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and four steals in a monster effort. Jorgen Kong also had a season-best 17 markers as they chalked up their ninth win against a solitary loss.

Ryan Alexis Mendez dished out a solid double-double show of 34 points and 12 rebounds, but his efforts went to waste as Class '89 fell to 2-7.

In the other games, Castrol '96 clobbered JRJ Enterprises 2000, 77-57, while Dewfoam '88 recovered from a sluggish start to edge out Cebu Hardware Corp. '84, 59-49.

Rogelio Donayre netted 18 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals, while Shaun Christopher Wang unloaded 17 markers on top of 11 rebounds for Class '96, which detonated a devastating 32-19 bomb in the windup to blow away Class 2000.

Raymond Ryan Ong had 14 points and nine rebounds and Oliver Boltron scored 12, but ace gunner John Brian Lo was held off to a season-low 11 markers as Class 2000 tasted its fifth defeat in eight starts.

Flashy pointman Erwin Yu, on the other hand, topped Class '88 with 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Harry Villamor added 14 points and six rebounds as they bettered their win-loss mark to 5-3.

Class '84, which drew 18 points, 16 rebounds and five assists from star center Sammy Sia, crashed to 1-8.

Also, JV Shop 'N Shop '97 kept its composure until the dying seconds of the contest to pull off a 66-64 upset over Cokaliong Shipping '98.

Bryan Labus pumped in 25 points and nine caroms followed by Wendell Maurin with 12 for Class '97, which evened its win-loss record to 4-4.

Elvis Evangelista erupted for 27 points on top of six rebounds, but his big night was spoiled as Class '98 slipped to 5-4.
