Thunderbird 2 rules Copa de Español golf

Thunderbird 2 ran away with the overall title in the Copa de Casino Español Golf Tournament, which ended yesterday at the par-72 Cebu Country Club.

The team scored a total of 28-under-par 136 points in the four-man event where only the three best scores in the Modified Stableford Scoring System counted.

The scoring format awards six points for a double-eagle, five for a hole-in-one, four for eagle, three for birdie, two for par, and one for bogey.

Loren Ong led the team with 13-under-par 49 points and was ably backed by Emma Bayer with nine-under-par 45 and Dr. Edwin Medalled with six-under-par 42. So strong was the team that the two-under-par 38 of Alan Larot did not count.

The Division A title went to Chots Wood with 126 points. Jun Dayot led the team with 46 points while Roy Damole added 42 and Robert Limyutiong made 38. The fourth member of the team was Peter Po, Jr. with 37.

First runner-up for the premiere category went to Alenaire with 122 points behind the 41s of Macky Michael and Steve Benitez and the 40 of Louie Moro. The 32 of Toby Florendo did not count.

The youthful Banilad Cebu Trade Center made 121 points to finish as 2nd runner-up. Counting for the team total were Abby Olea (44), Jovi Manglapus (39) and Wither of the 38s submitted by Lloyd Jefferson Go and Franz Olea.

The Division B title went to Bad Boys 4 with 124 points after they pulled past the Azucareros in the countback.

Ernesto Siguan led Bad Boys 4 with 45 points followed by Ben Li with 41 and Gina Yap with 38. Joy Siguan, Ernesto's wife, shot 37 and did not count.

The Azucareros were led by San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez with 44 while Danny Reyes added 41 and Armando Serafin had 39. The 27 of Ed Misa did not count.

Second runner-up honors went to Petron with 123 points. Eking Jereza and Ben Gothong each shot 43 points while last to count was Nolan Rada with 37. Nestor Mendoza's 34 did not count.

Promac ruled Division C with 125 points courtesy of Hernan Streegan with 43, Manger Calderon 43, and Flor Streegan 39. Eva Hino's 33 did not count.

Kolin placed second with 123 points behind the 45 of Boy Cunanan, 40 of Ed Anselmo, and 38 of Marcelo Tan. The 29 of Eddie Manzano did not count.

Los Estrangeros finished third with 119 points. Lino Dagus made 45, Butch Tubio had 41, and Rene Piano made 33. The 31 of Butch Aleta did not count. - Marigold P. Lebumfacil, correspondent
