Caliente

FULL POINT - FULL POINT By Nimrod Quiñones -
Don't you just wish you were just lying under the shade while relaxing on a hammock tied to two coconut trees by the beach?

Don't you wish you were taking a cool dip at the pool and then relaxing with a cold drink afterwards as you lie under the shade reading a good book?

I really wish I were doing something else and not beating daily deadlines and keeping myself awake with loads of coffee.

The days are so hot and one word that I can always remember from my 12 units of Spanish in college is "caliente."

I took my daily dose of caffeine after lunch last Thursday with my fraternity brother Raymund 'Jiggy Junior' Cerna of Y101-FM at the Parklane Hotel. On our way to the parking area at the basement, "Caliente" caught our eyes.

It's a really hot at the Parklane Hotel lobby believe me. Hot, not in terms of temperature, but with the swimwear and apparel on display.

My good friend and former officemate Donie Jane Pardillo, the owner of the small shop, showed us around (well, more like showed us what she has in the shop while we stood in one corner) and talked about the summer and the activities where the swimwear would be the perfect outfit in and out of the water.

In my case, I still prefer cargo shorts, a crewneck shirt and a comfortable pair of rubber slippers to laze around with on weekends at the football field or the mall or even when I am by the pool or the beach. Sorry Donie, no business from me for now hehehe…But surely, this is "Caliente" weather.

It's really hard to get the beach or the pool out of my mind these days although I don't see too much water Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings along with fellow parents as we watch over our kids in their football practice.

I just realized that watching on the sidelines has been something that I have done for the past seven summers now and I hope there would be more summers like this.

It is not just seeing your kid improve his skills through the years, but also getting the chance to share your passion with other parents and compare notes with them.

I've also made many good friends this way and this community is steadily growing.

I'd like to congratulate Titay's Liloan Rosquillos, which will be celebrating its 100th anniversary starting tomorrow.

My uncle, Gerardo 'Dodong Gamay' Frasco, who is now at the helm of the family business, is showing his genuine love for sports as he has included a bevy of sporting activities as part of the celebration.

The northern town of Liloan, 19 kilometers from Cebu City, will be busy this weekend as one of the institutions of the municipality turns 100 years old. Now, I'm craving for the rosquillos, Galletas and Bao-Bao. They're great food to bring to the beaches also the Peñato.

Congratulations to Titay's and the Frasco family!
